It's one of my favorite spots in Edinburgh, i spent around 1 to 1.5 hours on the top, it's a bit windy that time and there are a lot of view points!
It was a bleak day I got to visit the National Monument on Carlton Hill, a somber day around the monument to the fallen of Scotland. Rather sad, but important to remember that wars result in death.
The grand statue can be soon for many miles such is it’s size and prominence.
Carlton Hill is situated next to St Andrew’s and just a short walk from Waverley. The steps up are steep as is the path.
A taxi can also bring you to the monument.

A soaring tribute to the fallen Scottish soldiers who fought in the Napoleonic Wars, this is a place where you'll be afforded stunning views of the Edinburgh landscape and all the landmarks dotted around and on a clear day, there's many a sight to behold. The column is a favourite as it needs to be climbed manually without any steps but once up top, there are some fantastic photo opportunities or to just sit back and soak in the views. A beautiful little spot that should be part of anyone's plans should they come to visit Edinburgh. I'm so glad I did, that's for sure.
Excellent for photos and definitely a place worth visiting. The walk-up the hill is a little steep, but it's so worth it. You have to climb to actually get up on the bottom of the monument.
Worth a visit, nice view of the whole city, place to sit relax and get some with friends and family
Great place to visit in Edinburgh. You can see Edinburgh from the top and taking couple of photos. (Has great view of the city and the mountain goin up Arthur’s seat). it’s an easy walk and a few meters away from the bus stop.
This is a small trek with a great stunning view. I visited this place during a drizzle and the scenery felt like Heaven. You can see the whole of Edinburgh city from this place. You can see castles, the seashore on one side and mountains on another side. Also, it's great for walking. So just take your partner to visit and capture great moments with them and of course, you do not need a ticket to visit this place.
