I visited a Ukrainian restaurant, I haven't felt so disappointed in a long time. I am from Ukraine and I really know what dishes should be. We ordered borscht, dumplings and pancakes. Borscht was a little sour, maybe because it was not fresh, I don't know, borscht 3/5. Dumplings looked untidy, but the taste was not bad, but it could be better. My biggest disappointment was pancakes. It seems like the simplest dish, but they were overcooked, the unpleasant taste of butter and filling was strongly felt - the jam was sour. The siege was not satisfactory, therefore 2/5. If you visit you will understand why. Therefore, I was determined for the best, but left hungry and disappointed
This restaurant is a true gem (a bit hidden at the end of 60 feet hallway). We had halushky with feta and bacon and letcho (Hungarian goulash) with potato pancakes. We have also fried the white borscht (cold soup with buttermilk). Everything looked good and was delicious! Service was fast. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Stumbled upon this restaurant out of whim since I was walking through the EV and was looking for dinner. Little did I know that I would discover an off the beaten path location with some of the best borscht and varenyky I’ve had (and trust me, I’ve had a lot)! The varenyky I ordered had meat inside (a mixture of beef and chicken), but they do have other fillings as well and vegetarian items on their menu for those with dietary restrictions.
Service was also great and the atmosphere made me feel like I was at home. I will definitely be back and bring some of my Ukrainian or Russian friends if they have a chance to visit.

Soviet-like service experience, where customers have to take care of kids-spilled water by themselves.
The food is authentic, but not the best. Probably that’s why there were waiting line for the next-door Veselka, and no waiting for this one.
It took more than 20 minutes to get the check, and I had to go to their desk to pay to speed it up.

We came here about 1:30 on a Sunday so there was maybe a 20 minute wait for a table for two, and that’s to be expected because it’s a popular family restaurant. It’s a no frills place with really tasty authentic Ukrainian food, so although the interior is nothing to write home about, you will enjoy the grub! We had potato pierogi and potato pancakes with sour cream. . Server forgot the apple sauce and was overall not that attentive but in her favor , it was pretty busy. I would come here again but at a less busy time.
Food is just ok. The restaurant is really busy. Waitresses are not friendly. No smile at all. I didn’t like the Interior. Cheap and stereotypical. But the food isn’t expensive. So you get what you pay for.
My friend who lives in NYC has taken every one of her friends here, including visitors from other cities. I love the oddball setting of this place, down to the somewhat scary and weird basement bathrooms. This is my second time eating here. The prices have doubled in recent years, but hasn't everything, especially in NYC!? We started with rather small cups of mushroom barley soup that were quite different than Jewish varieties. Some tables were served dark pumpernickel bread, but we only received sourdough.
The waitress was the only one serving that night and quite overworked. We did have a long wait until our food arrived. The blueberry blintzes definitely doubled in price since my last time there. They were so incredibly good, I didn't mind - the best I've ever had! I was a little surprised that they automatically added 21% onto the bill after tax for the tip. The waitress was personable and working so hard, she definitely earned it - but $46 dollars for two tiny cups of soup, blintzes and pierogies is no longer the bargain this delightfully offbeat restaurant once was!

The food is delicious here, and the ambiance is pretty great - it gives you the feel that you're in Babushka's basement, about to be served a really hearty meal rich in potatoes and sausages. I loved how the event room smelled like decades of pierogies and good times. Something about this place just warmed my heart. Try the sampler plates for a little bit of everything wonderful. I also highly recommend the blitzes!
