The Black Bridge was built in 1308 at the same time as the construction of Iran's nationwide railway, and later became known as the Black Bridge because of the black color of its body and foundations. With a length of 1050 meters and a width of 6 meters, this bridge was built almost at the place of the historical bridge of Ahvaz (named Shadovan Bridge and dating back to the Sassanid period) on the Karun River to connect the Imam Khomeini Port Railway, in the south of Khuzestan province and on the coast of the Persian Gulf. Khorramshahr-Tehran-North national railway to connect. Dating back to the first Pahlavi period, this bridge is one of the historical and scenic places of Ahvaz, which was registered as one of Iran's national monuments on 27th of Bahman 1378, with registration number 2599.

This is one of the most beautiful bridges in Ahwaz. The main spectacular Bridges, the White Bridge (Pol-e-Sefid) and the Black Bridge (Pol-e-Siah) complement each other. All Ahvazis have fond memories of these two bridges.

This is considered the first bridge over Karoon River, built by Reza Shah in year in 1929. It is made entirely of steel with 52 piles that hold the bridge. It was registered as a National Treasure by the Iranian government for its beauty, age, and endurance. Despite its age, it is a normally functioning bridge.

During the Iran-Iraq war it was heavily bombarded but sustained only minor damages. It was used extensively by the Iranian forces during the war. It is an amazing, majestic bridge.
