Love this lobster trap tree! The Stonington Lobster Trap Tree in Connecticut is a charming and unique holiday attraction that captures the spirit of the coastal community. This unconventional Christmas tree, made entirely from lobster traps with attached hand painted buoys is a testament to the town's maritime heritage and its creative holiday traditions. The collaborative effort involved in creating and maintaining the tree reflects the close-knit nature of Stonington. Local businesses, artisans, and volunteers come together to bring this unique holiday tradition to life, fostering a sense of unity and shared celebration. My goal at Christmas time has been to see as many lobster trap Christmas trees as possible. Yeah, kind of nutty but they're so cool! Oh, and yes, you can go inside the tree and there is a volunteer who will take your photograph.
There were lovely volunteers there (I think from the chamber of commerce?) Taking pictures for people both inside and outside the tree and they were knowledgeable and hospitable. Just a fun thing to do to both enjoy and support the local community
Arrived when the lights were about to turn on and the line was around 30 minutes to enter. Volunteers were very helpful with pictures and the lights were beautiful.
This was a fun experience, we went on a Saturday a little before 4 PM. A few people there at the time, but at 4:30 when it begins to get dark the tree is lit. This is when the crowd really starts to get going. A lot of people are there at this time to take pictures, everything is free, and they have volunteers to take your picture using your device. Donations are welcome to keep this going every year. If you are in the area I recommend stopping by, it's available every day from 4 PM to 9 PM.
Nice little nook at a marina to be festive! Beautiful art! Passionate(and cold) volunteers to take your pictures! There is saw dust shavings on the ground that gives it a nice feel. Will be back!
Such a stunning tree! This would put anyone in the holiday spirit! There were people there to take our photo. Parking is free on site! Definitely worth the trip to go see the tree, there are some dining spots around the area as well.
It's beautiful, could stand there for hours looking at all the buoys. Recommend going during the day to see all the artistry and really get a good look at the buoys and then going back at night to see it all lit up.
