The Putnam Greenway trailhead can be found at the northern edge of Van Cortlandt Park where it connects to the South County Trailway that runs through Westchester. The Putnam Greenway spans the length of Van Cortlandt Park and is part of a former spur of the New York Central Railroad. Nowadays, it is a paved pathway used for walking, running, and cycling.

Minutes away from the last stop of the 1 line. A nice one to hang out and walk around. Reminds me a lot like Central Park and Forest park (Woodhaven). If only I could live near here, it would be the coolest thing. Highly recommend.
Gail Brandt
Too much plant growth on lake. Walk is nice and is a treasure.

But this is a real true City Escape! Peaceful and quiet
Michael L
Great walk along the old railroad with many signs of spring
Greg Gallent
Great multiple use rail trail. Flat and recently paved, based on The New York and Putnam Railroad, connects to the South County Trailway at the Yonkers border.
