It looks lovely in the summer, with all the boats and ships. Next time I am in Berlin I want to book a boat ride which starts right next to Berliner Dom - Berlin Cathedral and DDR Museum. You can get a beautiful panorama of the city and Spree river from the Cathedral dome. The admission is paid 9€ but I think it is well worth it.
Ambient Walking
I have walked along the Spree in Berlin from Jannowitz Brucke to Tiergarten and back so many times now that I lost count. This is absolutely one of my favourite walks in the world and I would never give it up for anything. Berlin is so land locked that every drop of water counts! I would have feel so parched if not for this amazing river! So amazing! Highly recommended!!!

The River Spree it sounds small whereas the Rhine for example could be nothing other than enormous however the Spree is not to be sniffed at approximately 400 kilometres in length it flows through the Saxony Brandenburg and Berlin states of Germany before cutting into the Czech Republic it is the river on which the original centre of Berlin was built

In the Spreewald the river passes through the towns of Lübbenau, Lübben and Leibsch. Just below Leibsch, the Dahme Flood Relief Canal diverts water from the Spree to run into the River Dahme at Märkisch Buchholz. The Spree continues north from Leibsch before flowing into the Neuendorfer See at the northern edge of the Spreewald. From the Neundorfer See it then flows in an easterly direction to the Schwielochsee, and then in a northerly and westerly direction to the town of Fürstenwalde. From Fürstenwalde the river continues to flow westwards, through the Dämeritzsee and Müggelsee, to Köpenick in the southeastern part of Berlin, where it is joined by its tributary, the River Dahme.
The final reach of the Spree is where it is best known. It flows through the city centre of Berlin to join the River Havel in Spandau, one of Berlin's western boroughs, which itself ultimately merges with the Elbe to enter the sea in Cuxhaven, after flowing through Hamburg. On its route through Berlin, the river passes Berlin Cathedral (Berliner Dom), the Reichstag and the Schloss Charlottenburg. The renowned Museum Island (Museumsinsel), with its collection of five major museums, is an island in the Spree.

A usual river and river side developed front to stroll, take a sailing on the river flowing through Berlin, eateries/restaurants alongside it's embankment and a time pass/fun for tourists, perhaps for locals too. Paid cruise trips in plenty are available by my operators. Walking distance (2-3) minutes from on of the two sides of the Berlin Hauptbahnhof. One can enjoy rides on covered big boats, inside or top of the deck, on the river and eat/drink on the boat from their respective limited restaurant services.
