A beautiful area at the arboretum. There are collections of herbs used for dyes, medicines, food, and others grouped into thematic collections. There is also a wonderful rose garden featuring old and species roses and some pleasant walking areas.

take your time to read all the varieties. But I wish I knew what all the different types of basil were called so I could get some for my garden - the tiny leaves in the potted plant by the left trellaced walkway....hmm. i think they could make some money by selling seeds or saplings of the plants here.

This is one of the coolest parts of the National Arboretum. There are hundreds of different types of herbs arranged into categories such as medicinal, colonial, Native American and more. Each herb is labeled and many have a description of their uses with historical facts. It’s really cool to learn about and many of the herbs smell amazing!
