I'm generally not into visiting these famous mansions except for the history they invoke, but my daughter loves them so we went here and the Vanderbilt mansion, which is more famous but I liked this one much better. For one thing, there wasn't a lot of construction going on. It was $25 a person, so it was not cheap. There were some very lovely things to see. The rich are different than you and I! The gift shop was small and we didn't find anything worth getting in it. There must be a lot of rooms they don't let the public see cause for a mansion, we really didn't see that many rooms, so I'm not sure why, but areas of the home are cut off. At the Vanderbilt mansion, for example, we got to see the kitchen and get an idea of a servants life. This house, if it had a kitchen, was not open on the tour.
The mansion was small but it had elegance and the imagination of a ball was nice. The landscape was nice with the view of the ocean. I require a nice hot summer day to tour and take the full tour on the trolley is my goal for this coming summer to see all the mansions and walk the cliff. I stay for one night but plan to stay for a week in the summer of 2024. No photo taken!
Interesting gilded mansion tour. I wash were able to see more of the home. This tour was pretty quick. Bring headphones to listen to the tour on your phone.

I visited Rosecliff for the first time & it was stunning. The architecture was beautiful. Each room told its own story. There was a historic display upstairs that outlined the story of the tea house. The gift shop was cute & had some fun items for purchase ❤️
This is a beautiful mansion but if you had to pick only one to see in Newport, I would suggest The Breaker's Mansion.
Rosecliff has an interesting history. Be sure to download the on-demand tour and bring your favorite ear buds so that you listen to the story of its last resident.
If you are old enough to remember the movie TRUE LIES, you may recognize the grand staircase from the opening scene. Arnold Swarzenneger can also be seen dancing in the ballroom.
While the 1st floor is impressive, the 2nd floor has not been restored and hosts an installation.

This is such an elegant mansion. Much smaller than some of the others...really the main floor and the grand stairs...are the best parts of it...but its just plain...pretty. The ballroom and its design with all the doors that open out felt exquisite in form and function. So glad we chose to see it. The Celestial City exhibit was great for anyone enjoying Asian art and history.
