Really interesting fort that brings history to life. There was a musket demonstration on the day we visited and they also demonstrate the cannons. Very well maintained. The lower level is accessible, but there are aren't railings on the upper portions and there are several stairs. However, there is a ramp. Great view, gift shop, and educational exhibits. There are also trails and beach access.
The fort is very well preserved and boasts some very beautiful scenery in the surrounding area. We also got to enjoy a demonstration with the 24lb cannon. Beautiful nature trails around the fort and great exhibits within the fort and visitor center

Ft Macon is fantastic! Don't miss the experience,it will thrill you! Imagine yourself defending the NC coast during that particular time period....a very dangerous situation indeed,it took plenty of courage & commitment, that's what Patriots do.....

History with a gorgeous view! We are locals but we always take our guests here. Everyone enjoys it because there’s a fort, a beach, and walking trails—something for everyone. We especially love to take our dogs to walk on the beach or the outstanding nature trails during the off season.
Absolutely Awesome Experience! It was a great time and adventure to go there and learn all the history. The scenery of the beaches was beautiful. And it felt so enjoyable to take in the scenery of exploring the fort. Without any doubt going to Fort Macon is an awesome, fun, and great opportunity to take advantage of! A wonderful place. Much history. Park very clean and well maintained. Features live scheduled tours and demonstrations. At the end of the outer banks strand, so surrounded on 3 sides by a beautiful beach with many seashells. Not at all crowded on a Friday, although overcast, slightly rainy, and windy climate undoubtedly kept some people away. Will definitely return very soon.
