Really nice church built more recently but with catacombs you can visit.
Let's hope that tourist guides will continue to keep the large group away from this magnificent place. A monument to the early history of Christianity.
Amazing. I have never heard my peer mention this Basilica before. Maybe I am ignorant, but I describe it as a hidden gem. It is a beautiful church with such a rich history. Not only is there a typical church area, but you can go down to other layers that house relics of the past. We went as part of a tour group by City Wonder's.
Angelo Paoli, known as the "Father of the poor," is buried in Rome's Basilica of Saints Silvestro and Martino ai Monti. The basilica also houses a reconstruction of his body, honoring his dedication to helping the less fortunate.
Very interesting, not the church itself but the underground building from roman times. There is a prayer room and other buildings below the church, from the 3rd up to 9th century , where Saint Sylvester lived. This gave the church its current name.
Also of interest the mummified body of a holy person from 1700, who is exposed in a glass coffin with his original shoes !

Not only was the church itself interesting, but the underground Roman structure added to the experience of this place. It mostly feels like an ancient Roman home and a little place of worship (either during the Roman times or converted later, not sure). You really feel history all around you when visiting - highly recommend!
You have to go underground and find there a lot of artefacts. Roman ancient house, early Christian church, and you will feel the real Rome base there, through the centures. Enjoy!
