Awesome hike. The entire loop was fun and worth it if you are moderately fit. The hike up was challenging. Was tired by the time I reached the tower at the top. The descend via the Welch was not paved and was tricky as well. It’s a little rocky and slippery at certain places and the descend via this route took longer than hiking up. It was really really good though. Took me little more than 3 hours.
I will always cherish the moments Of today. It was special for my full family. My mother is 57 still she went there. After 1 and half hour we reached on the peak. The landscape is indescribable. You don’t have to hike on the top if u have car. But if u r a hike person go for it.
Probably the best hike for the average person in this park.
1. The Appalachian trail approach is among the best maintained trails on the 2200 mile stretch with wide, manageable rock steps and nearly-level walking surfaces all the way to the top (and there are outstanding interpretive signs and examples of how this trail maintenance is achieved by mostly volunteers at the trailhead).
2. The distance is relatively short (3-4 miles depending on the route(s) you choose).
3. The views are excellent.
4. The tower, binoculars, and benches at the summit are enjoyable and give people who need a break a nice opportunity to take one after thei get to the top.

Small zoo with native species, a beautiful lake, a MerryGo Round, walking trails, ice ring and much more. A great place for family. My kid enjoyed specially merry Go, reptile zoo area as well as the bear and birds. Lake view is amazing.
Love this place! That's the 5 stars.
Now rating the Inn is a different story.
The staff at the Inn will intimate you to "not" use their restroom, even if you're pregnant. You have to be a guest. I get it, but their methods are unprofessional and heartless.

Fantastic upstate NY park. Nice selection of hiking trails including the Appalachian Trail with excellent views of the Hudson River. Bring your own barbeque and have cookouts around Bear Mountain Lake. Lake rents peddle boats. Excellent parking, and park has very nice hotel with a restaurant which I believe will reopen on 6/26. Double check. Park has swimming pool, and zoo with native animals. In addition to car travel, the Shortline Bus Service is operating again only on weekends, from Port Authority. Bus Service is about 2 hours, and leaves PABT at 8:45am and Bear Mountain at 5:07pm.
Amazing hike trail. Hike is easy to moderate, and view is worth it. Try to go during evening, you can see beautiful sunset. If you have kids or old age people, you do have the capacity of taking your car to the top and park.
I am giving this place 5 stars because of the views, the park is huge the creeks & brooks are gorgeous, there are soo many trails (Harriman State Park right by there has 200 miles in hiking trails alone). My boyfriend and I just hiked Bald Mountain via Cornel Mine Trail Loop. It was beautiful, w a few really cool suprises. Loved it, BUT I should be giving it a 3 because the trail marks (thank God for all trails or we'd still be trying to find the last half of the trail 🤣) are all a mess, DO NOT follow you WILL get lost so double check always. And people could be better about taking out trash there are trash bins 🗑 EVERYWHERE near the parking lot & restrooms there is NO excuse. My bf and I carried a bag out of trash that we found along the trail closest to the parking lot meaning people are hanging out there and not hiking or using the trails which I'm glad cause 75% of the trail was spotless and now 90% is cause we just cleaned it lol so let's keep this gorgeous park the way it is and protect the ever endangered wildlife there whose homes we are entering by the way.
Def reccomend and we'll be back to climb Bear Mountain!!
