Airport is making efforts to be updated but summer traffic is pushing its capacity to the limit. Personnel is always super friendly and go above and beyond to accommodate everyone. Modern design although is has low ceilings. Gate space is limited especially when there are delays and not everyone can find a seat. Plethora of stores and restaurants. Loud airplane noise for the nearby suburbs (Artemida). New drop off limited time lanes for departures are a mess and can result in fees while trying to unload suitcases and passengers.

Interesting airport that includes a museum inside. If you have a long layover you can check out the museum and grab lunch across the street at the Sofitel hotel. Depending on where you're staying both train and taxi are options so if you plan ahead on transportation you may save on not needing a rental car. If not your final destination plenty of flights to the rest of the Greek islands and Europe as well.

It was quite tough to lie down on the bench inside the airport, to dare to sleep there. Apparently, every seat is a little bit soft, but three of them were connected to others separately, with making a small hole in the middle of each one, which made my back ache all the way around and around my body... very well, but that would be inevitable given the original function of the arrivals airport.

Small airport. They don’t let you check in your luggage 2 hours before your flight, so we had to sit like homeless people with our luggages outside overnight. Limited food counters. The power plugs are too far away from the chairs. Some staffs didn’t speak English and they were rude. The only good thing is they have English signs.

Clean and spacious!
1st airport for me where you have museums and students art display upstairs and art&culture downstairs and entrance to any of them are free.

1st airport for me where you have to pay to weigh your bag.

1st airport for me with the map display of where(which floor) all offices and shops are

1st airport for me where 500ml bottle water cost something cent in some of the shops

FYI - If you will be needing cash, withdraw money before entering Athens international airport because if you have to withdraw money inside this airport, you will be charged more.

In case you rent a car ,know that most of the car rental offices are not inside the airport. Call the car rental office and ask where you can wait for them to pick you up and take you to their office because they often have bus shuttle from the entrance of the airport or the airport car park to their office.

Document control was fast. Once outside the airport, you have a short part that takes you to where you can take the metro or better still ,right outside the airport you have a bus that takes you to the center of Athens and it cost 5,50€. You are expected to buy the ticket before entering the bus. And the ticket office is not far from where the bus-stop is.

Walk around a bit and you will find areas to buy affordable meals!

I had a great experience here! Both arrival and my flight back home were enjoyable. My baggage was quickly handled upon landing and i barely had to wait at all! Friendly staff made check in very easy. The duty free shops are great and sell lots of local products for a good price which was amazing. There was loads of places to sit so waiting was no issue.

As far as airports go its good. There are a few attractions inside such as a museum and art exhibition.

The real gem is after check in, the duty free was quite impressive.

There is a water fountain at the far side of the airport (domestic side), with phones scattered throughout. What I did appreciate is the hand sanitizer units which all worked.
