Nova Scotian here - tasting as much local cuisine as possible - and I'm full of regrets. After eating at 10 different 4+/5 rated restaurants so far, I can confidently say that Calgarians have few to zero options for good food. I paid $46 for 2 very small and very bland breakfasts that neither I nor my wife could even finish. This is the kind of meal you'd expect to see at a gas station for $5 in Nova Scotia, and even then you'd probably ask for your money back :)
Unassuming cafe which has the most fantastic breakfast. Plentiful and delicious.
The hash dish has 2 poached eggs - cooked perfectly and so delicious. The belly buster breakfast has it all. The hash potatoes were hiding under those pancakes.

Nellie's, I really wanted to give you the benefit of the doubt but...really? The hashbrown portions were so small and I tried the "Nellie's favorite" Mexican style breakfast (forgot what it's called) and it was just awful. Please don't have that as a recommendation on your menu. It tasted like abunch of overcooked and canned olives dumped on a tortilla wrap and stuck in the oven until crispy. I'm sorry but it was just really not good.
The fact that we had two dishes with SMALL portions of hashbrowns and coffee that came to over $50 is just wild. I was very upset leaving the restaurant. I wanted to support a local business for breakfast instead of going to Denny's or something but this was not it.
Decor was cool though and our waiter was very nice. Perhaps specific things are good here but, don't get what I ordered.

We were in town for a conference and on the last day decided we needed a proper breakfast. We took a chance on Nellie's and I am glad we did!!
The food is outstanding! It has been a long time since I've had a breakfast that made me want to come back every morning. The service is also very good. We always felt taken care of.
We will be sure to visit every time we are in Calgary!

I never give 5 stars ,but the service atmosphere, no nonsense restaurant, is so refreshing it deserves all the praise it gets.
The boss mom is great funny and engaging but never loosing sight of the service and food.
If u want a fast, great breakfast, hot coffee, no nonsense, this is the place.
Will return no question.

Classic diner with some super cute 90’s mugs. Very mom and pop, which is refreshing to get in a downtown core. The food is decent and the coffee is bottomless. Better than the Macdonald’s and Tim Hortons close by and at a fair price.
We have walked by this place so many times and decided to give it a try.
This is a no frills place, with a fairly comprehensive menu, with lots of unique and expected options. The food for us wasn’t life changing, but we cleaned our plates.
The pricing was fair for the quality and execution. The service was extremely friendly and welcoming, definitely a highlight.
We would recommend this place if you are looking for a no frills, steadfast breakfast/brunch experience.

Best Breakfast place in Downtown Calgary! Their staff are so polite and so welcoming that they make you feel at home. They serve you a good tea/coffee as soon as you enter. They have a very good choices in their menu which puts you in a place in what to eat and what not. I always find it hard to choose one from their menu and I make sure I do not over eat some times. The best part is their food makes you feel at home.
I totally recommend this place in Downtown Calgary for a good and satisfying breakfast.
