La Fontana del Mercato in
piazza dell'Università è una fo tana storica risalente
al 1137 e versa acqua
potabile dal 1940: una volta
veniva alimentata da un braccio
dell'Almkanal, passando dalle
montagne del Monchsberg, e fa
parte del più antico esempio
esistente di un sistema di approvvigionamento idrico
pubblico nell'Europa centrale. Serviva come fonte di acqua
potabile, antincendio e per alimentare le fabbriche della zona,
sfociando nel fiume Salzach. Da notare la sua architettura ed il
sistema di vasche che la compongono.

Amazing found right in front of Kollegienkirche. Saw the notice that said this water was found in nearer time construction to be an old waterway in its ancient past. The water is still moving and look so clear. A tap located next to it for local people to fill up their containers for their use.
