Really great trails. This place is really scenic and offers a nice break from civilization. There’s a lake and the main trail goes all the way around, it’s about 5-6 miles. But then there’s off-shoots and you can go up in elevation on the castle trail. If you go up to the water tower you can see NYC in the distance. Found out the castle was owned by some industrialist guy in the 1940s. And some vandals burned it down. Really interesting and calm hike. Some people said there are bears sometimes, so always bring friends/family. It opens at 8am and the parking lot is a bit difficult to locate though.
*EASY-MODERATE*
it was pretty cool trail! i would go again. its pretty laid back for the most part. around the lake is like gravel or sand almost. it can be muddy in some parts.
starting 20 mins are like rocky so careful there but manageable!
the lake is pretty and calming! it took us just short of 2 hours to complete (we also jogged a bit)
dogs are supposed to be on a leash but beware people have them off leash.

Beautiful hike with plenty of well marked routes to take you to the lake, the Bird house and the ruins or Van Slyke Castle. Parking lot gets full pretty quickly but is worth the wait as this is one of the most complete hikes with gorgeous views in th4 state of NJ.
We actually did MacEvoy, Castle and Cannonball trail loop last week. Total 5.5 miles.
It was sunny afternoon and we really enjoyed this hike. Despite raining on the day before it was not muddy at all. We hiked with our dog and she did great because trail is mostly flat.
I would recommend to either come early morning or after 1-2PM because parking was packed when we came around 12

It was 2nd times this year. Very peaceful, quite, dog friendly, lot of beautiful water lilies in the lake. Definitely recommend for easy dog walking. It will be absolutely fantastic all year around.
My boyfriend, pup and I went on a weekday. It was perfect. Quiet and peaceful! Love the mix of trail and path and definitely enjoyed the loop around the lake
Easily marked trails and pathways that don't interfere with the asthenic of this beautiful nature trail dotted with water features, made Ramapo Lake Trailhead a joy to explore. We worked up a nice appetite and afterwards found a great diner nearby serving up the best Costa Rican coffee ☕ too! It was the perfect morning/afternoon and we can't wait to go back and do it all again soon!
Parking wasn't awful, even when we came at around 9-10am. Did a nice 5.6 mile hike to the ruins and around the lake. It was slightly challenging at some points but it was worth it for the views. Will definitely come back again for the other trails!
