So fun getting our own private tour of the boat. Don't miss the inside museum and the story of the red canoe.
Eagerly awaited the season opening to shoot video. Was told it opened first Saturday in March. Not only was that a month early but the museum wasn't even open during open hours
The museum was kind of small but interesting really enjoyed small exhibit a fishing boat got a better understanding of how fishing net works. Touring the steamship was well worth the five bucks really interesting couldn't believe how small the steam engines were
While the museum is small there is so much to see! We stopped in to see the WT Preston but we were so pleasantly surprised by the museum. The information about Anacortes and the surrounding area really added to our trip to the area. The volunteers were amazing and made the experience interesting and personal. Highly recommend!
Maritime Heritage Center & W.T. Preston.
W. T. Preston is a specialized sternwheeler that operated as a snagboat, removing log jams and natural debris that prevented river navigation on several Puget Sound-area rivers. Built in 1929.

Friendly guide and very clean vessel especially considering how old it is. Staircases were slightly cramped - but average people "then" only weighed about half of todays consumer. We loved the entire layout - and the boat tour only cost $5 per head.
The exhibit, both inside the museum, and onboard the Preston is really quite amazing. It's a fun experience to climb aboard a steam-driven sternwheeler that was in active service not that many years ago. Granted, I go a bit crazy over old ships, especially old working boats, but there really is something for everyone at the Preston.
