The best in the biz, but sometimes they play a few too many weird documentaries and shorts. Obscure dramatic film is definitely where it's at.
They show really interesting and obscure films but the theater I was in required climbing 3 flights of stairs
Seats are a bit uncomfortable and the auditorium is pretty flat (not stadium), but you'll see stuff here that most other people in the world may never have the chance to see
I'm glad places like these are still around and showcasing something else than the mainstream... Thank you.
Steam HEAT baby. No cut to cold air like other Arthouse theaters in NYC. Saw Hitchcock on their biggest screen. Very nice man at boxoffice... They take credit cards. They have a great retro for cinephiles ending soon called HOMECOMING. Cheap membership including free movie nights. 2nd av and 2nd st on corner... 1 block from F train 2nd av stop.
For a completely hassle-free date night with my sister, the experience is absolutely appreciated. It was a brilliant and full movie theater experience! Super cool interior here! I feel very comfortable with the enormous chairs and the good taste of their food. We would never hesitate to suggest this place to my colleagues for sure. Further! Bigger! Superior! Superior!
I've screened my film here and attended many screenings and festivals of my friends films. It's great that they offer big screens to low budget films and they are definitely a staple of the New York City indie film community. I will admit that the seats are uncomfortable especially if you're big like I am and the lack of air conditioning is just annoying. Still, I'm sure Ill.be here again and again. Check out their new filmmakers series if you're a young director.
If you're looking for the rustic film lover cinema, this is it! History abound - every filmmaker that ever came out of New York has screened here or been to a screening here. Always check out what's playing. You never know who will show up, but you can be certain they'll love movies just as much as you. Sure, it's small, but it's filled with love.
