As a student of the school, I appreciate the opportunities and the involvement that comes with the school. I’ve gained a lot and received a lot of help at this school. It only takes a student’s will to succeed for high achievement at WLA. :)

I would like to emphasize the last sentence. :)

After speaking with multiple students that attend this school, majority of them find themselves depressed and overwhelmed by the school workload. They do not enjoy lunch and are upset that there is no form of real physical education for them. The staff apparently treats the students like little kids rather than preparing them for their future adulthood. The students describe the school as a "trap" because it gives off a great presentation to the outside world but barely lives up to that during the school day. I project majority of the students to have a difficult time during the college application process due to their GPA standing in there first two years of high school. The one thing this school does have going for them is their test scores and technology, but that can't save students from being denied from the top schools in the country if something doesn't change. I suggest this school rethink how they teach/treat the children because right now, it is not working.

Picture driving through a canopy of stately old trees as you approach the entrance to this historic landmark which is within walking distance to the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. The architecture of stone and mortor dates back to the late 20s and 30s.

The driveway will take you up a hill where you will find the academy straight ahead and townhouses on the right that didn't exist 30 years ago. I guess developers finally made them an offer they could not refuse.

We arrived at 6a and the doors were open to anyone. If I were a parent, I would have been concerned and alarmed about the accessibility. We proceeded to our destination without interference.

They have done a great job marrying the old with the new and turning this old church into a center for learning. Spaces are used for multipurpose events, lectures and meetings.

We returned at lunchtime and had to be buzzed in which was a relief, but no one asked for ID at the main desk. They were too busy talking to each other and waved us pass.

Younger children were engaged in activities, young teens had more freedom and some were a little disruptive. Lunch items were dropped and left on the floors and when someone asked them to clean up, an adult said someone else would clean it up. Wow, what a way to teach responsibility. It just happened that this area was being used for an event, so we came back later to set up.

The academy has a lot to offer and hopefully the students will walk away prepared and engaged. It's a great environment, let's hope it lives up to its mission statement.

Its actually a pretty good school I am a former student. It provides a great environment for a student becoming a young adult. They have some amazing teachers and the student community is great. As for administration, well their credentials can speak for themselves.

I am a student that attends Washington Leadership Academy. We are a school fueled with technology and are learning to be leaders of the world.

2 Year Update: This school has changed a lot and is no longer shaping into the great school I thought it was to be. They don't fulfill on their promises and the school environment gets worse and worse as the school gets older. If you are thinking of attending this school, I suggest you don't.
