Best thrift shop around in all of downtown. Quality stuff, and pricing for every purse.
We stop there a couple times per week, and we’re lucky to find collectibles such as art, pottery, records and menorahs, as well as basic items such as glassware, books, and kitchen things.
Within walking distance is the Gramercy Housing Works, so check out both.
In the super-crowded Soho/Nolita neighborhoods, this garden is an oasis. The highlight is the many architectural remnants, but there are a few unique trees of note. Friendly volunteers, be sure to chat up one of the gardeners if present. When I worked in the neighborhood, the garden was essential, with its urban beauty and plenty of areas to sit down and relax.

The city wants to take over the spot to sell to a developer (probably to build a generic glass tower), so it’s been an ongoing legal battle to save this community garden, which is the only green spot to be found for blocks.

Help save the garden! Even if you only visit the area occasionally, this oasis is so important to the community and visitors alike!
Longacre Theatre

Beautiful theatre, large but with tight seating which is typical in these old palaces. Saw Leopoldstadt (Mar. 2023) and I highly recommended it: excellent story and acting, and it left me quite moved.
Small pocket park with just a few benches for relaxing. Located on a corner in the Village where Bedford meets SoHo, this park is incredibly shady and lush with wonderful trees and flowers including camellia, red buckeye, oak leaf hydrangea, roses, many perennials and much more; almost a tiny botanic garden.
Always a joy to pass by. Never have seen it open, but easy view from street.
