Looe Bridge
2023 Oct 11
The seaside town and fishing port of Looe is divided into two parts: East and West. Although there is a small passenger ferry that connects both sides, the bridge is strategically important as well as architecturally attractive. It is constantly busy with vehicles and pedestrians.
A convenient car park right in the centre of the village and only a few steps away from the sea. It is necessary to pay and display a ticket. Space is somewhat limited and no doubt the parking fills very quickly during the summer holidays and at weekends. The ground is uneven in places.
Rodney Road Car Park is particularly handy for the small group of shops in the immediate vicinity. It is directly opposite the Spar supermarket and is frequently used by their customers. The parking does on occasions get busy with no spaces available. One large space, nearest to West Town Road, is reserved on Monday afternoons, from 2.15 pm for a couple of hours, for the North Somerset Mobile Library - the location is edged with red paint.
We were in the area and looking for somewhere pleasant to eat lunch, ideally with a view. The Lanhydrock Hotel and Golf Club - set in open countryside close to Bodmin - fitted the bill pretty well. A modern establishment with a huge dining room and bar overlooking the links. It was quiet on the Saturday we called in and the atmosphere in the large room was somewhat soulless as a consequence. We enjoyed the food and the service was OK. It is worth mentioning that we were not disappointed by the far-reaching vista across the golf links! Parking is available close to the entrance.
