A very safe clean and beautiful place overlooking Oyster Bay Harbor including a long pier for walking or fishing There is also a beautiful boat ramp and little dock Also plenty of great seating and a little gazebo to have a rest or lunch If you like this a a great place for photography you will also notice beautiful beaches on both sides of the park This park is also a memorial park dedicated to a soldier who fought in the Viet Nam war Also this park is very kid friendly and as well wheel chair friendly. In the Summertime the Waterfront sailing schools are in session. Many people jog and walk around here for exercise. This place is a natural open space and has many natural and man made walkways the park was made to protect and enhance the environment to give the visitor a high sense of well being.
Another entrance to the Nature Preserve this area also includes a big horse riding field. This is actually called the equestrian entrance to the Nature Preserve.
One of the Best nature preserves on Long Island. The beautiful Chelsea Mansion is right next door. Stop in at Paterson Center that’s at the trail head kids will love it. Make sure kids are protected from ticks. If you have a bike there is a bike rack in the parking lot. There are actually three entrances to Muttontown Preserve, there is what is called the equestrian entrance on route 106 the other two are a bit difficult if your a first timer but as long as search for the Chelsea Mansion in East Norwich the Preserve is right next door or down the road. Be aware if you are not frequent hiker give yourself plenty of daylight to get out of this corn maze like trail system. Most of the time during the Summer big mud puddles and if your looking for the ruins a good way to learn their history is to ask an expert inside the Paterson Center at the trail head it is very interesting.
Nature Trail

A wonderful trail leading down to Cold Spring Harbor with a a good stretch of shoreline that is a protected bird sanctuary and a great place to capture photos or rest and relax. The trail is a loop trail that is downhill to the new boardwalk and there it leads to the Family beach of Theodore Roosevelt. If you want to avoid a very long and very steep section of the trail on your hike out, near the beginning of the trail of the way down the trail splits here you”ll see a Trail sign where you can decide for yourself. There are 4 benches along the trail up along the much less steep section. I captured some excellent bird photos by resting my camera on the top railing of the boardwalk .
Nice place to view birds.
