The Tribeca Greenmarket is open in NYC on Saturdays from 8am-2pm year round, by a quiet tree-lined park east of the Chambers St & Hudson River intersection where there is a citibike dock. Here is a list of a few vendors. Lani's Farm (also at union square) is a no-spray farm using natural compost and is beyond organic standards, and has special varieties of vegetables throughout the entire year and is popular with top restaurants, and has reasonable prices. Prospect Hill Orchards is one of the few orchards in NY State (from Hudson Valley) to have organic apples, and also has varieties of berries in the summer that are no-spray, and has a nice selection of baked goods and granola. Francesca's Bakery sells sweet and savory baked goods, and my favorites include the whole grain gluten-free apple buckwheat tart, and vegetable knishes and pastries.
Astor Place is a GrowNYC Greenmarket open from 8am-5pm June through November (as of 2023) with local farms Halal Pastures Organic no-spray farm and southern NJ Kernan Farm and with Francesca's Bakery. The location is just south of Lafayette St by 4th ave near 8th Street. Halal Pastures has a wide and special varieties of vegetables and fruits including potatoes, cucumbers, tomatoes, onions, leafy greens, fresh herbs, corn, melons. Francesca's Bakery has savory and sweet baked goods and granola with ingredients from local farms, including a spinach knish, blueberry corn bread, and buckwheat apple tart.
Oak Grover Plantation Farm at the Union Square Greenmarket is a no-spray farm and has a very large selection of peppers from sweet to seasoning to spicy when when they come in season in the summer, as well as many varieties of plants, herbs, grains, baked goods, and vegetables. One if not the only farm to have no-spray peaches. The farm is not certified organic, but follows organic practices in many cases beyond organic.
Down to Earth Chelsea Farmer's Market at 23rd st and 9th ave), open from 9:00 am - 2:00 pm from late April to late December on Saturdays. A new organic no-spray farm called Berry Brook Farm from Hamden, NY has replaced echo creek at echo creek's recommendation with similar growing practices, with no sprays at all, better and fresher than organic produce in grocery stores that are less local and tend to have scheduled sprays. Fino Farms is also new, and specializes in orchard fruit, and also grows vegetables. Jersey Farm Produce is back again in 2023 and I believe is no-spray except for spray as needed for the apples which have no wax..
Orwashers is a NYC bakery at this market and was founded in year 1916, and has whole grain natural sourdough breads with local NY State and organic grains, and has baked goods and pastries brought fresh from the NYC bakery in the morning. The staff here is very knowledgeable about the ingredients and the craft of bread making, pastries, and varieties and sourcing of grains.
- 7/1/2023: favorites from Orwasher's are the spelt/whole wheat /millet/raisin/ sunflower seed unleavened bread, and the ultimate organic nys whole wheat loaves of bread.
- 7/1/2023: Now in the summer, Berry Brook Farm has a nice selection of gold potatoes, turnips, radishes, broccolini, mustard greens, tuscan kale, red beefsteak, german bicolor heirloom tomatoes, and many other no-spray vegetables, all displayed in wooden and metal crates.
A pleasant, small, fenced in garden open specific times of the day right off of 8th Avenue at Jane Street.
