I love the MRT system in Singapore, it’s very clean, super quick, and easy to understand. As a tourist you can expertly navigate your way through within minutes. The train frequency is every 2-3 minutes, the longest I’ve ever had to wait was about 7 minutes. Tourists please remember to stand on the left hand side of the escalators, this allows other passengers to use the right hand side to walk through at a faster pace. When you wait for a train, follow the direction of the arrow & feet graphics on the ground, stand to the left & right hand sides of the opening train doors, so you don’t block the middle. Wait until the people on the train have exited before hopping onboard. Follow the graphics on the walls of train “Bags down Benny”. On a crowded train, if you are wearing a big bulky backpack, place it on the floor between your legs. “Stand up Stacey” common courtesy as in all countries, do offer your seat to the elderly, pregnant women or disabled folks. Fares are paid per kilometre, we paid $10.50 for 3 adult return tickets starting @ Orchard Rd ending at The BayFront. The ticket vending machines do not accept $10 bills, make sure you have smaller notes or coins. Do not eat or drink on the trains as it is illegal.
The staff are fantastic, very friendly and extremely helpful. The library is not huge, yet the range is extensive - with access to over 60,000 items. It's well utilised by students, retired folk, and young families with small children. A selection of books is available in Chinese and Greek, just ask at the main help desk. There is an after hours return chute, a disabled toilet, and it's wheel chair accessible - lift access is also located on the food hall level above - just look for the large hanging heart - I'd say green, but it does change colour! The easiest and most convenient car park location is Yellow B1, off Millennium Boulevard. Wifi is free, there is a photocopier, loan iPads ,and word processing, and Xbox consoles for the kids. A display television is available for public viewing, featuring sport and news. Two community meeting rooms, with after hours access, are available for hire - the max capacity is 30 people, and includes a data projector. The library also has a quiet room, news lounge, and a special space for children to enjoy storytime, read a book in a nook, get creative at the craft bar, or play the interactive learning games. Opening Hours - Mon, Tues, Wed, Fri - 9am-5.30pm, Thurs 9am - 8pm, Sat - 9am - 4pm, Sun 10am - 4pm. Closed on public holidays
