Went to the St. James Model Railroad Club open house over the weekend, this is definitely a not to miss event. Although the location is quite small, it is a fun part of the day to spend watching the various types of model railroad cars traverse through the detailed layout of real and imagined settings. There are so many little scenes that you could really lose yourself in imagination. For a $2 donation, you could view all their hard work to your heart's content. Their next open house is supposed to be in November 2024.

A beautiful, hidden in your face escape. Located near the FDR, the Elevated Acre provides beautiful views of the East River, Brooklyn, and Manhattan bridges. There is plentiful seating as well as an artificial turf green space and natural foliage. It is a great area to take a break and read a book or take that selfie.

Have not been inside the building itself but there are a lot of nifty looking art displayed for the public to enjoy.

Planeview Park is a nifty little greenspace that one could consider "off the beaten path" of sorts. The park's location gives visitors a nice view of LaGuardia Airport's runways where on a given day, you can sit and watch numerous flights take off and land. The planes do not fly very close over you but you do have a good enough view to details.

Also, planes do but fly over this park every day so your mileage may vary when visiting. I would use a flight tracker to determine the flight pattern to be sure you'll see something if making a trip there.

There are benches around the park where you can sit and a large grass area to play or lounge. The only bad thing is that it's located a bit out of the way. You normally would be going there if you needed to rent a car or you go to work in the buildings nearby. Nearby, outside of its connection to the highway, it's a very quiet residential area.
