The Purbeck Stone Museum
2024 Jun 11
This is a very basic two room, free to enter, volunteer run, community museum which will take up an hour or two of your time. The smaller room changes themes with the times (D-day anniversary as of this post) and the larger room deals with the main topic - stone quarrying and masonry work. Going here will answer a lot of questions regarding stone and it's uses (the local volunteer really added to the experience with their knowledge). As a side note the 11th century church next door is also worth visiting and shows off the local Purbeck marble in the columns. And the bee orchids outside. But that's a different story.
