Russian Chapel
2023 Apr 19
This chapel was built in commemoration of the Russian prisoners of war who died during the construction of the Vrsič pass in the first World War. It is small and rather obscured from the view from the main road, which adds to the general peaceful feeling that governs the place.
There is a small parking (free, +-10 cars), which was however closed in April for no obvious reason.
I'd say it's a nice stop if you're on the Vrsič pass, but not really something to detour for if you have no emotional connection to the commemorative monument.
During our visit it was not possible to go inside the chapel (and it didn't look like you ever can), but there is an outdoor seating area with benches right besides it.
