I think people overlook this building in the zoo and they shouldn’t. Not only are the exhibits downstairs really interesting and fun (who doesn’t love a giant frog or a mammoth) but they have a TON of animals in here! Snakes, frogs, fish (including ones you can touch!), lizards, insects, arachnids, and more.

This is an excellent history museum. It’s well designed with a variety of subjects, from Pre-history to recent events. It doesn’t shy away from showing both the good and bad history of Virginia. The displays are extremely well set up with a good balance of objects and text. I applaud the curators for putting together an excellent collection.

What an excellent museum. They have a strong collection of ancient, Egyptian, medieval, and European art. Their current exhibition on Asian art was fantastic too, and I will be back to see the Ethiopian exhibition in December. The gift shop also has an excellent selection of books. I highly recommend coming to this museum.
Gettysburg Beyond the Battle Museum

This is an excellent new museum that’s a perfect compliment to the Gettysburg Military Park museum. I highly recommend coming to both museums. This one focuses more of the civilian experience, which is fascinating. The displays are extremely well designed and the museum has an excellent flow to it. The immersive experience of the house during the battle should not be missed. The artifacts are well labeled and explained. Overall, this is an extremely well designed museum and it will be a great addition to the town.

Overall the museum is interesting and the majority of the displays are well laid out. I’d definitely recommend going here, especially if you are a fan of early American art; they have a lot of Peale paintings. They also have free parking behind the building.
I only gave 4/5 stars because unfortunately the activism exhibit couldn’t be enjoyed by us. The word layout seemed chaotic and it was hard to read because different paragraphs were so close to each other it appeared as one confusing, long, run on sentence. It wasn’t very dyslexic or sight impaired friendly.
I’d still recommend the museum as the rest was spot on and fascinating.
