Fort Worth Herd
2023 Oct 21
Park in the public parking on Stockyard Blvd. $10 to park all day. Look for the signs with the QR code to pay by phone. They have a cat walk that you will use to cross over the animal pens and come in behind the museum. Quick walk and you get a chance to see the longhorns chilling below. Accessibility wise, this is NOT the parking if you cannot navigate 5 or 6 stairs to get up to the catwalk.
The herd consists of some truly amazing specimens! Those horns are much longer than you'd imagine. They will generally have one or two of them saddled up for photos with the kids for free. Donations and tips are highly recommended!! Help feed the herd!

Elara Pool

The Elara Pool ~ Bar & Cabanas are not only a beautiful place to spend an afternoon in Las Vegas but they are also a bargain! Cabanas are downright cheap here. If you are someone staying at the Elara as a hotel guest, you can rent a Cabana on the lower level for $100 a day with a minimum food purchase. If you happen to be an owner of a timeshare at Elara, you have access to the upper level Cabanas. They are $50 a day with no minimum food purchase. Compare that to up to $1,000 over at the hotel across the street and you can see what a big deal this place is. Cabana manager Luis is extremely accommodating and will make sure that you are completely happy with your time by the pool. Serving staff is also attentive and eager to make sure you have a good stay. We had breakfast and lunch there. The Standard breakfast was massive and delicious. The nachos with steak or chicken are enough to feed at least two people. For beverages, I like the Effin Lean Green, a really nice light and crisp cocktail made from effen cucumber vodka, light simple syrup, fresh lime and club soda. If you're going to sit by the pool all day, this is a great beverage to drink. Less sugar means less hangover or headache from sitting in the sun and drinking. If you're not in the mood to book a cabana, get to the pool early and set up a towel so that you have a place to hang out. The chaise lounges in the pool are very nice touch and also serve as a fun water slide for little kids. No complaints at all about this place, can't wait to return!
Accessibility score: 5 out of 5. Completely accessible for anyone, including those who might be in a motorized wheelchair. Plenty of room to maneuver and working elevators that go all the way from the garage below the hotel all the way up to the third level where the owner Cabanas are located. Owner level has a nice private bathroom by the hot tub that is completely accessible and includes a large outdoor shower 4 post swim. Bathrooms on the main level are also accessible.

Portal Down to Old New York

This cistern (well) was part of an excavation and gives us a glimpse into life in the early days of the colony that later became the United States. This early 18th century well was uncovered and is said to have resided on land belonging to longtime residents, the Philipse family of Philipse Manor. The well extended down to the waterline, YES, the East River’s waterfront once ran along what is now Pearl Street!
The cistern provided water to the entire block, and when the waterline was pushed out, it was no longer used. It then became a trash receptacle and was filled with everyday items.
There are several other "portals" located in this place giving a glimpse into early New York City. Very cool to see so much history mingled with the modern era financial district.

American Airlines

I have had pretty good luck with Americans! I know quite a few people that have had negative experiences but that has not been my experience. My experience has been one that is similar to most airlines. The seating can be a little cramped and the planes sometimes are delayed in arriving or leaving but I don't think all of that can be blamed on the airline. Sometimes it just comes down to luck. This weekend I took a trip to LAX on American and had quite an enjoyable time. On the way back I decided to splurge and upgrade to first class for 50 bucks. Best decision ever! Super comfy seat and the drinks and snacks served up in first class were fully worth what I paid extra.
Miraido Village Apartments

Nice modern apartment complex. Conveniently located on the edge of San Jose's Japantown. Gated parking for one car per unit. Additional will have to park on the street, many of which are metered during working hours.
