Canal St

Review in regards to travel on July 12th, 2022:

Canal St. station is one of the biggest and busiest subway stations that connects multiple lines that help bring business to medical practices to private owner businesses to downtown corporate offices to tourist hotspots and cultural and historical landmarks. These stations, though consistently kept well get crowded quite a bit. With the disappearance of many businesses along the longest street on this island comes the continual disappearance of masks on these crowded station platforms and especially onboard where security, even cameras, are not present. Also, not an accessible station, whether for the yellow lines or ACE. Saw a woman struggling severely to just go down the stairs and especially not having an easy time making her way downstairs with her luggage. Concerned about the safety and health of all riders and disatisfied as a NY resident of over 20 years.

There are so many great spots to eat in the neighborhood but if you're looking for a reasonably priced bar that has a traditional New York sports bar atmosphere that draws a lively crowd, is full of energy, frequented by friendly locals and has inclusive and supportive staff (from the bouncer to the bartender), this is your spot! Whether you're sitting at the long bar counter on the stools or further inside at the nice tables set up to drink and share grub with a group of friends, large TV's are on and music is pumping in the air to really create a space for people from all walks of life to have a good time! Even though I'm an extrovert, this is not my usual scene! But I was invited by a friend and being the traveling soul I am, I truly enjoyed myself! Seeing so many people just enjoying life is what's important no matter the road and sometimes all it takes is just a little trip to somewhere new that can honestly give you that refreshing experience!
Thank you for the time! I hope to pop in again another day with more friends and take more photos! I was enjoying the moment too much to take more!

Updated review after coming here a second time within a week period.

Went here twice during different days of the week and different times, once during the week for a late lunch and once on a Friday night during higher customer volume during dinner hours.

So, I just have a couple of things to say.

1. The price for the all-you-can-eat option is reasonable in terms of Great Neck. 2 to 3 people seems like an ideal amount of people to go here.

2. Sushi is fresh.

3. Not a comfortable dining experience.
A. Not greeted, nor left with with a friendly response from the restaurant host.
B. There seems to be pushiness to eat and leave, whether it is when no one is there or during dinner hours when people want to enjoy longer meals. The check wallet was thrown onto our table without much of any spoken word to let us know.
C. There is no mindful eye on patrons, which happened to me and other tables I witnessed, in regards to offering more drinks or refilling water. My friends and I, who had our phones down, hands on the table, and looking around did not receive immediate attention.
D. Waiters are consistently dismissive, whether you call out to them or hold up your hand for service. It's very embarrassing and rude. Took very long to actually leave the restaurant because of the inattentiveness.

4. Food very oily, including the gyoza. Disappointed in the taste. Also, the "mushroom soup" was, to put it lightly, also a disappointment (see photos)

5. Even though both times my experience was a party of 2, we tipped 20% the first time and 15% the second time, as a courtesy according to their receipt.

I personally will not be coming here again. This is not the kind of service I expected, especially during dinner hours. Will be looking into other restaurants within the town of similar cuisine.
My family and I took my father to a casual dinner here. We had been here once already and enjoyed it so much, we had to come back!
Plenty of parking in the back.
But back to the restaurant! The atmosphere is very relaxed. All kinds of people come in, from an old couple to a small group of four friends.
I ordered something simple--the illusion salmon. But what I saw and ate was a delicious display of fresh salmon.
The special dishes are extraordinarily beautiful!
You have to check it out for yourself!

Important: NOT a Japanese restaurant. It is more like an Asian Fusion restaurant. Only the sushi chefs are Japanese, as I was able to communicate with them. Not purely Japanese food, but small Asian dishes with unique touches. For example, I loved the veggie and mushroom spring rolls (4) with a mango sauce, which I recommend.
I do not recommend the "beignet," as it is certainly not one. It is fried the same way fried ice cream is, which tastes very different. However, if you are a chocolate fan, there is an excellent dessert that awaits you, made with lots of rich chocolate.
Nice mood lighting and can accommodate couples to up to 10 people (with a reservation).
Has a good drink selection, but small sake selection.
A bit pricey--but it's Great Neck.
Had a nice time, but please do not label this as a Japanese restaurant.
