A reasonably priced establishment that caters to NYU students or anyone on a budget. For NY the portions are unusually large and the prices feel like getting a student grant. But the sizes are in inverse proportion to the quality.
But it was a perfect meal before heading to a performance at the nearby NYU Skirball theatre.

A casual, laid back, informal atmosphere, with run of the mill seafood dishes. Caters to undiscriminating middle class locals.
Service alternated between efficient, lackadaisical and frantic.
I went in for lunch with no expectations and left with a few regrets.

A casual seafood place with decent food and better service.
This was not a pre planned visit, but a last minute resort to have lunch after visiting the nearby Amano museum.
I was not greeted with disdain for not having made a reservation ahead of time, or offered the worst table in the place, as was the case when I went to Amor de Mar where I never plan to even be nearby.
I ordered the causa with pejerreyes arrebosados which for S/45.00 was a deal: a large portion and well presented on a white dinner plate in a the shape of a subtle wave.
There was a layer of salsa acevichada in between the causa and the fried smelts which livened up the purees yellow potato. The pejerreyes were dusted in flour and then deep fried to perfection.
That and a glass of chicha hit the spot before heading back to finish my visit to the Amano museum, just 4 blocks away.

A reliable go to if you feel like splurging or celebrating a special occasion. Like a well maintained dame, gleaming and well polished, the place does not show its age. As far as taste and presentation the food never disappoints.
The service the night we went was efficient if a little combative. If there is one reprimand to be made it would be to train some of the staff on how to respond if one has doubts after tasting a bottle of wine. If it feels corked and one expresses doubts about it, not sure saying the restaurant has been serving that particular wine for nine years was the right response. It ended up the wine just needed to breathe but the waiter’s reply changed the mood.
We always enjoy it and always feel it was worth the money which for Falmouth is on the high end.

If you happen to be walking in the West Village, hungry, adventurous and within a budget, this is the place that fulfills all three conditions. Everything is cook to order so be patient and you will be rewarded, with well made, generous portions of Middle Eastern food. Starting with the freshly baked puffy pita bread, the well and less known spreads are fresh and delicious.
On this brunch visit I only had an Ouzi, a warm chicken pie filled with rice and vegetables, well seasoned, accompanied with a yogurt mint sauce. My beverage was a refreshing glass of hot mint tea. The rice was perfectly cooked and the presentation enhanced the experience.
The place is casual as is the service, which fits the laid back vibes.
