When I went, the main exhibit was the winners of a national painting contest. It was exactly what I hoped to see in my heart of hearts - contemporary (but not conceptual) work from talented local artists with amazing local flavor, traditional art influence and meticulous technique and skill. I couldn’t have hoped for a better exhibit, wow!
I am not sure what is usually displayed in this museum but I got very lucky to see the show I did.
On another floor, there was a charming botanical illustration exhibit. And on another floor, there were various artisans selling handmade wares from jewelry to lotions & candles and clothing.
I would love to come here again for another exhibit.
The contents of the museum within were not the highlight of the visit for us - they mostly contain photography from a long-ranging around the world project that Albert Kahn sponsored, to be honest I think the exhibits could use some editing down and deeper explanation.
But the gardens - wow! Have you ever seen a mini-forest that looks like a theater set because it’s so carefully swept and maintained? Not a leaf out of place but somehow a relaxed beauty nevertheless. There are various Japanese gardens, which I wish there was more explanation about (extremely enjoyable without it but I know there is a lot of history and tradition behind them which I would have love to learn about), all gorgeous and immaculately kept.
A museum that houses the most of Monet’s work in the world is thankfully smaller than expected, quiet and not overwhelmed by other tourists. It’s wonderful to stare at and observe the separate abstracted elements of the paintings. Some interesting objects and paintings upstairs as well. Highly recommend!

The surrounding neighborhood was probably my favorite in Paris. Quiet and beautiful.
