Old Field Point Lighthouse is a great getaway spot on the Long Island Sound. A beautiful neighborhood drive leads you to the park grounds where there is ample opportunity to walk around and enjoy the beauty there. The lifmghthouse is marvelous and even houses some local offices. Enjoy the grounds for a picnic, a walk, or just sit and watch the sunset into the sound! You can not go wrong with whatever you do here...a must see for lighthouse enthusiasts, like me, and a wonderful gem for Long Island, Post Jefferson, and all to enjoy.
Only the folks who really want to see every lighthouse in the area will appreciate this one. It is built into the actual inn. The place was closed when we arrived (off season), so walking around the building to get the views was simple enough. Cant comment on the inn or anything else, as it was all closed
Outstanding lighthouse opportunity. East Chop lighthouse, on Telegraph Hill, offers a park like setting complete with grassy grounds, benches and cliff side views. The light is the classic short white, brick lined, cast iron light you think of when you think New England lights. We chose to go to Martha's Vineyard during the off season and while many of the shops and restaurants were closed, there were no crowds to speak of, so we were the only ones on the grounds of the light and had ample, undisturbed time and picture taking opportunity. Lighthouse fans would love going during this time snd taking in what it could have been like, being the light keeper on Telegraph Hill.
West Chop lighthouse is a must see for lighthouse fans. While the light and grounds are not accessible, you can easily view it from the road and at least get a picture or two. Still worth your time to drive out there, as it is only a few short minutes from town and the ferry dock in Vineyard Haven.
