Stunning location, great views, a place to relax and enjoy Dobrogea landscape
The tickets are 10 lei for adults and 5 lei for kids over 7 years. The prices are a little bit high for see the fortress where u can see only the outside walls and they are not maintained at least. The only good thing there is the view that you will have it.
Last remaining bastion of the 18th century fortification. Well preserved, but it could have been used in a much better way.
Beautifully reconditioned and re-purposed 18 century fortifications. The place does, however, need a lot of work in terms of promoting it. Amazingly helpful and friendly staff at the Info booth.
Sorry Romania but this looks like an abandoned, graffiti covered dump. I'm here at 14;30 on Sunday. I see two cafes, both closed and nobody around
I have been there a few day before. It was a cold -5°C day. The wind made it more terrible, but letting all that aside i got to understand the beauty and the importance of this military compound! It was a harsh job to do, on a beautiful place. I wish the Romanian state would try to preserve it more. It's worth the travel if you like to get in touch with the past.
It is a piece of history... But not curated at all.
Mentioned by the roman poet Publius Ovidius Naso, the ruins of Aegyssus are situated on the Monument Hill, Tulcea. The roman settlement and fortification, parts of which are visible today, have been inhabited from the 1st to 7th century AD. This archaeological site is currently being researched.
