While the prices are steep, we took advantage of restaurant week to get a good deal. Rather than pay $40 for a single entree, we payed $55 for a three course meal. While pricy, the overall atmosphere allows for great conversation. If you eat meat, you will have many great options. If you are vegetarian or do not eat meat, you might have a significantly harder time. However, this might have been a result of the limited menu as a part of restaurant week. Overall, the food was good and so was the service. It is a high class restaurant that will not have you spending over a $100 a person. Also the portion sizes are massive— I ordered the ravioli where I got ten pieces of stuffed ravioli, enoguh to take home 5. It was definitely on the heavier side, but it still tasted pretty good. The tiramisu was also good, but not anything that is memorialized in my mind.
HAPPY RESTAURANT WEEK TO THOSE WHO CELEBRATE!
I was excited to try Filomena’s after hearing so much about it. After walking past it countless times I took advantage of restaurant week deals and ventured down the stairs to see what if Filomena’s lives up to the hype.
To be perfectly honest, we got pretty full off the bread and appetizers alone and struggled to eat much of the massive entrees and desserts. But Filomena’s encourages takeout! The food was good, the pasta was fresh. The handmade sausage on the rigatoni alla vodka was excellent. The arancini and it’s accompanying red sauce were delicious. That being said, the dishes were all heavy on the butter and cream, and some lacked the sophistication that I expected from an institution like Filomena’s. It was a fun experience (I felt like I was in a Godfather movie), and I am certainly glad I have tried it. But I am not sure I would have happily paid full price for the food I ate. But by no means a bad meal!!

We had to try Filomena during our stay in DC!
We knew the portion were supposed to be huge, and since we could take it back to our hotel, we decided to share a meal.
They served us some complementary bread with some olive oil (which was basically a pizza bread). It was really tasty.
Then we e got the meat gnocchi. It was absolutely amazing. The gnocchi were so soft and melty. The sauce and meat had so much flavor.
We were glad to have shared the meal because we had trouble finishing the plate even though we were 2.
The place is pretty crowded and noisy but despite that, the service is really quick.

Filomena had a tackiness that makes the place cute and stand out from the rest. It truly does make you feel like your Italian grandmother is whipping up something in the kitchen— and the staged worker in the front of the restaurant surely helps that idea lol.
It’s very crowded, which could mean one of two things. Either the food is really great, or everyone flocks there to see what the hype is about.
For me the food was very good. I had the Tortelloni Di Michelle. It was rich in flavor and so filling. I only ate one ravioli before filling full. The ravioli pieces are huge and packed with tender braised beef. They also serve a nice sized portion of bread for the table. For drinks and dessert I had a very well made lemon drop, and a Blueberry and Raspberry tart. The lemon drop was made well and the tart was so sweet and didn’t skip out in the fresh fruit topping.
I’d come back with family/friends.

wow I mean wow! this is the spot impeccable service excellent food! flavors in this deeply textured delicious food that I recall from growing up with my Italian grandmother's cooking. a little bit pricey but you feel a good value exchange in terms of quality food and service for the price. leave room for the cheesecake / my wife it is the best cheesecake she has experienced EVER!
I ordered the eggplant pizza for delivery unfortunately I was not impressed considering the high reviews. The delivery came on time and the pizza was warm so no issues there but there was just no flavor. Now, my standards are high considering I used to live in New Haven/New York areas but I also had better at high rated Italian restaurants in Florida. Next time I will stick to pasta dishes.
The food was pretty good, and you get a lot of it. But it is incredibly heavy with tons of butter. The flavors are not very intricate or delicate. And while you get a lot of food, the quality doesn’t seem to justify the price. That said this is an establishment, and an experience that is a lot of fun. We will definitely go back. But at this price point, there are much better Italian restaurants in the DC area.
I went there for dinner for my birthday and it was amazing! Everyone was so kind and hospitable beyond measure. I got the lobster pasta dish, linguine cardinale, and it was easily the best pasta I've had in DC so far, and the portions are huge so don't let the price tag deter you, I couldn't even finish half my dish. Also the bread is amazing as well. The caramel cheesecake is what I had for dessert and it was so rich and delectable, it's worth having as a guilt pleasure. I totally recommend it here to anyone and will definitely be back!!
