staff was very friendly and helpful. i didn’t eat but my friend did. but he would stop raving about how much he LOVED the food. he said i had to write on google maps: come here and order anything, you won’t regret it!! the place was busy we didn’t wait long to be sat and the food came quickly. dope spot. thanks!

Ordered the fried chicken, which was tasty and had a nice crunch. Cocktails were lovely and refreshing. The plum salad....Oh the plum salad. Not only is the portion probably the size of my hand, they attached a £12.50 price tag to it. Absolute robbery. I expected more for my money overall. I'd been meaning to try this place out, but don't think I'll be returning. The portions are small and the cost is high. The service team were nice and attentive.

Oh and what's with the plastic plates???

Fantastic meal. One of the best in London I’ve had. Super flavorful. Great balance of savory and sweet flavors. Loved the cabbage dish a lot and basically every other dish. Drinks were great as well. Enjoyed celebrating my birthday here with friends.

I had really high expectations, and sadly it just didn’t deliver.

The star of the show was the ceviche which was absolutely phenomenal.

I also had the braised belly which was okay, but there was nothing particularly amazing about it. The fried chicken was cooked wonderfully but the sauce it came along side with was so insanely salty , that you sort of just had to have the chicken on its own. Which didn’t taste of much. The cabbage was nice.

Honestly the biggest let downs were the citrus salad , which I suppose for some , it depends on your preference my party and I found it so flavourfully overwhelming that nobody ate it, and anything it came into contact with on your plate just also wasn’t really enjoyable to eat. Also the aubergine honestly didn’t taste of anything - and I had heard good things about it, and was looking forward to it but :( the greens that it came with were just standard herbs no flavour otherwise

I wouldn’t say service was particularly great
either - though I do commend the waiter who brought , our food to the table, telling us what to try with that, it did mean a lot. But the initial waiter didn’t really give any advice or suggestions on what to have.

I know this place has such a reputation so perhaps we just got them on an off day.

I’d advise asking questions about your food and figuring out what you like , sweet , spicy etc. Cocktails were nice !

Not quite as I’d hope… but I’ll give them another chance.

Having moved to Manchester a few years ago, I have never had the chance to visit Smoking Goat. Now that I am back in East London, I thought that today (Friday) would be the day to make my way over.

I arrived to meet a colleague for a late lunch at 2.15pm - I arrived early, and the place was busy but not full. Lunch service was winding down you could feel. As I waiting for a colleague and was early, I sat at the bar and was quickly served and expertly looked after by the bartender. It was Friday, so I enjoyed a nice glass of cider.

When my colleague arrived, after a little confusion, a table was set up for us by the front windows of Shoreditch High Street and we headed over.

We were given ample time to decide on food choices, though it took some time to get attention and my colleague had to go over to catch attention. We made our order promptly but it took some time for food to come out. I can be a bit uppity when service is slow and my colleague and I began looking around in that natural that can happen when you feel you’re waiting longer than you should.

We enjoyed a snack item to start, choosing the Fried Chicken Skin. The chicken skin was lovely and milder than a similar dish at Speedboat, making it easier to enjoy.

This was followed by Fried Chicken, and on this dish I have to agreed with my friend who was dining with me… the finest piece of fried chicken you have ever had!

We then rounded this up with the Moo Hong Braised Belly 450g, Crispy Pig Bits Citrus Salad, and some Jasmine Rice.

Let’s start with the easy bit. The rice was rice, cooked properly. Not much else to say. The Moo Hong Braised Belly was perfect cooked and the meat and fat balanced well to give a great sensation on the tongue.

The Crispy Pig Bits Citrus Salad. Have you ever been punched in the throat by a beautiful Thai woman? No? Try the Crispy Pig Bits Citrus Salad. It’s beautiful but takes no prisoners.

The food at Smoking Goat was good. The service was lacking. The team members were great. Polite and personable, but they were struggling with something, food took a little longer than I would expect, and we hardly saw the staff around us.

I had similar food the day before at Speedboat, for a similar price per person. The staff were amazing. I remember their names, we had a laugh, they recommended dishes to try on the next visit. Here, it was okay but it kind of felt taken for granted that we would think it was great and come back again on a return visit.

Now, believe me. It wasn’t bad, it just wasn’t as good as I would have hoped. It didn’t feel worth more than the, apparent slightly down market in comparison, Speedboat Bar.

Maybe this was because they were on a wind down after a lunch service, with the shift change happening ahead of the dinner service? I don’t know, but I will give it another go.

Amazing food, really suits our Asian palate with a lot of layers of flavors. The game changer was the chicken wings with chili fish sauce, I’d say that was the biggest wing I’ve ever had lol beverages were also interesting (esp the one that my sister got, the pineapple soda thing?) as I ordered Thai tea as it has been a habit of mine whenever I went to Thai resto. Although we had a reservation, the previous tables were still there so we ended up sitting on the high chairs which was actually fine but I didn’t find it comfortable as my feet are short so.. it was hard to balance and enjoy the food at the same time. Service was good tho but I wish they could put us at our designated table instead. The restroom was also clean and comfortable to do your jobs lol keep up the good work!

Smoking Goat is a really cool Thai place where the food really shines. It's not super traditional, but trust me, it's tasty. The dishes are full of flavour, especially those sticky fish sauce chicken wings – they're a must-try. The cocktails are great too, perfect for a relaxed night out. It's a laid-back spot to grab some good food and chill with friends. Definitely worth checking out if you're into flavourful, fun eats.

Food to price ratio was impeccable.

We came for lunch and got the cockles, trout, cabbage, a spicy fish, and massaman curry. The cockles and the fish were both on the spicy side, but they do warn you about the heat. I absolutely LOVED the massaman curry. It is large, so definitely a sharing plate. I would also highly recommend the cockles too. I kept sipping the sauce it came with even after we ate all the cockles.
