Really nice hike up to the top, moderately difficult especially if you take the stairs to the top. Great views! Best to make reservations.

It’s a tunnel. Read the monument reviews to see what’s inside the mountain (nothing).
Roger Burra
Not particularly a feature in itself but the park and the walk to the ridge is great. The tunnel is simply a way to get there!

Upon leaving the Diamond Head State Monument, we made a brief stop at the Kahala lookout point overlooking East Oahu. Vehicles heading to the crater must pass through the semi-dark Kahala Tunnel, which has alternate single-lane traffic regulated by traffic lights to allow pedestrians to walk through the only entrance to the state park.

U can't view w/o reservation, we were disappointed

A tunnel. You can walk and drive through it. How exciting.

Didn’t realize this was a landmark in its own right. Pretty cool way to start your hike up Diamond Head. Pedestrians and cars share the road, separated with cones but didn’t feel that safe to me.

There’s also a look out point before you enter.

No reservations, no entry. I did LOVE the guy with the bullhorn in the front blaring "no walkers, no cars, no reservations, no way"! Almost made it worth it!
