Incredible beautiful monument in the heart of the city and on the south edge of Central Park
Visited this gilded wonder 2014, but there was some sort of rally being held there. I tried to take pictures without people in the shot but back in 2014 my camera didn't focus well as I tried to get angles with no one in the picture.
Nevertheless, I can't get over how beautiful it was. I hope to come back early in the morning so I can take better pictures with less blurriness and people.

Words can’t describe the beauty of this place. You have to visit it yourself!
This monument of General William Tecumseh Sherman is so lovely, it’s a must-visit when you’re near Central Park + The Plaza!
What a beautiful statue! You can't miss it as you walk, bike or drive by. It is completely gold colored and pops out against the building background. Great details on the statue and it is located in a small plaza in a busy intersection. Apple store is across the street, huge store underground, as well as an entrance to the zoo through a walkway the other direction from the apple store.
Must see. This thing is insane. It’s dipped in gold leaf. I came across this statue by accident. I would have never expected a huge statue of General Sherman on a gold leaf statue on 5th Ave. in Manhattan. A must stop. Hopefully you see this in the daylight on a sunny day.
This gilded bronze statue is exquisite! It actually looks like it has been dipped in pure gold. Dedicated to General William Tecumseh Sherman, it also is accompanied by a woman who is a symbolic figure of "Victory". Its location is at the southeast corner of Central Park in New York.
One of my favorite monuments in Nyc by one of my favorite sculptors August Saint-Gaudens. The way it is painted... the way the light hits it and the allegorical stance makes you stop, look and wonder.... just a magical spot in this city of hustle and bustle. It’s also right near the entrance to the park/zoo so it’s a great place to people watch
There is an impressive monument of William Tecumseh Sherman at Grand Army Square on the southeast corner of Central Park in New York City. Sherman was a Union General during the American Civil War.
The monument is the works of American sculptors Augustus Saint-Gaudens and Alexander Phimister Proctor and was dedicated in 1903. It was re-gilded in 2012 returning the statue to its original bright gold colour, which is how it can be seen today.
Here you find an equestrian statue standing 15 and half feet tall, Sherman is dressed in military and overcoat while his horse is marching forward. In front of the General is a gilded angelical figure. Both stand upon a round oval shaped granite pedestal with gold inscription and engravings.
Flowerbeds are placed on the sides of the monument providing nice colour and ambience to the Sherman monument at Grand Army Square.
In the end, there are many monuments to view in and around Central Park in New York City. This is one that I have always found to be quite impressive. It is also worth checking out the Pulitizer Fountain opposite the William Tecumseh Sherman Monument on the other side of Grand Army Plaza.
