Golden Unicorn is one of the more popular Dim Sum places in NYC. There will be a wait to get in on weekends. Every weekend. If you don’t like waiting for tables, this is not the place for you. Anyone who is complaining about it being crazy busy on Feb 10? It was Lunar New Year AND a weekend. Of course there would be a crazy wait. The food is delicious and I’ve always had friendly servers. Is there sometimes a language barrier? Yes. If that’s something you aren’t willing to deal with- don’t go there. If you want delicious food loves by locals and tourists alike- Golden Unicorn is a great spot!
The drinks and the dim sums were great. Reasonable prices. Hello kitty egg custards were amazing. Would not recommend the hibachi section edamame or noodles. Would recommend the strawberry fields drink
Yup. The hype is real. Make sure to come early. It’s a whole event waiting downstairs for your number to get called but trust me, if you get there before the lobby is packed you won’t regret it. Everything is delicious. I didn’t know they had a darn Peking duck station making lil buns. I always end my meal w some of the coconut jelly. Thanks golden unicorn!
Visited this Chinese restaurant for dim sum. Unfortunately, some dishes weren't served at the ideal temperature, which was disappointing. Overall, the experience was okay; attentive staff made up for it. However, the restroom lacked hand soap, a hygiene concern.
One of the best asian restaurants around the locality. I wanted to eat vegetarian so they were able to accommodate me and remove meat and change broths to make it vegetarian. Love the vibe and the servers are prompt and super helpful in recommending the food options. I almost forgot my credit card and they kept it safely and found me at the bar downstairs to return it back to me.
The food and cocktails were delicious. There is some wait time but it gets cleared pretty swiftly. Would visit again.

Known as the first dim sum place in NY. There was a long line to get a table. After we got seated, the tables were kind of close to each other. This isn’t a large place. There was actually an older white lady that was complaining about us taking pictures of the food, unbeknownst to her, this is how people find out online if something is good. She definitely wasn’t the sharpest tool in the shed. The service was meh, we got our food fast. The food itself is decent. It wasn’t super tasty but it wasn’t horrible either. I only came here because of the reputation, so I don’t think I’ll return.
Most delicious dim sum I’ve ever had. This spot is super popular for a reason. The scallion pancakes were the perfect crispy texture. The shrimp balls were crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside, and delicious all around. The fried dumplings were also very tasty. A pot of jasmine tea is the perfect way to wash it all down.
The line for this spot was super long when I left, so try to get there before noon.

Vegan dumplings!! And scallion noodles. This place is realllly good. I gave it 3 stars because there’s no bathroom, place to wash your hands, and the dining room is small. But the food is super good. So if you’re looking for a hole in the wall with plant based dumplings, look no further. I’m small and 6 dumplings were plenty for me for lunch, just in terms of sizing.
Popped in this after for a quick snack.
A true hidden gem located in midtown Manhattan.
Tasty & flavorful dumplings are cooked to order freshly.
The plate presentation may not be the fanciest but the food is reasonable priced and so delicious!!

Have known about this spot since the Vice coverage in 2020. The decor is a timeless throwback to HK Cafes in the 50's.
While these shrimp dumplings had a generous portion of excellent shrimp, the skin dried as soon as the basket arrived. Stellar shrimp dumplings have a delicate and thin skin, and these were not it. Salted egg buns were easily the best on the menu. Wish other items carried the same standards, but I'm glad to have visited once.

I have to say it’s a Chinese restaurant that worth to view. It’s rare to see a Chinese restaurant actually treat genuinely well to their customers instead of working for tips.
Truly authentic Shanghai cuisine with extremely reasonable price. Highly recommend to try their Hot and Sour soup, full of flavors, just shows how amazing their skill is. Shoutout to Lee who is such an awesome server. Thanks for making the amazing dinner more enjoyable.

We were thrilled to have authentic Hong Kong style Chinese food just a few steps away from Times Square. It's a tiny restaurant but the prices are reasonable, the portions are huge, and the taste is simply exquisite. The servers were very helpful and the atmosphere warm and intimate. Maybe the excellent hot sake influenced my review as well. Overall an experience we can't wait to repeat on our next visit to NYC.
One of my favorite restaurants in NYC. The ambiance in this place combined with the quality of food is almost unmatched. Start with the oxtail dumplings and rock shrimp and while I normally skip dessert I feel like it is a must here. Be sure to make a reservation. 5/5
So many dim sum options and everything was fresh and delicious. The only menu item we didn’t love were the crispy garlic spare ribs. The flavor and coating was delicious but the meat was very fatty and we couldn’t eat it. Great customer service.
Like this cute Chinese restaurant. Quite dope.
We were in a rush. The waiter was able to get us the dishes in a short time👍The pork soup dumping and pan fried pork bun are pretty good. But the watercress with enoki mushroom dish can be treated more to remove the bitterness…

Party of 3 and everything was delicious! Pork soup dumplings, Chicken soup dumplings, pan fried pork dumplings, pan seared egg and chive pancake, pork wontons in chili oil, and red bean puffs were ordered. Everything was cooked perfectly, the service was great, and it wasn't very loud so you could hear the people you were dining with! Will absolutely go back!
Went here for the first time today for dinner with my brother. I had the scallion pancake as an appetizer and then the chicken fried rice for my entree. The scallion pancake was very delicious and the chicken fried rice was decent. The staff was very nice and super attentive. The food came out pretty quickly and we did not have to wait too long. While it's not the most modern looking place, there is a certain ambiance to it.
New ownership, a new menu, excellent service and renovated premises. Delicious Chinese Food! We tried several dishes. They all tasted good! Especially, noteworthy was brown sugar rice cake, the best I have had ever!
Very disappointed with my experience here, especially coming here after reading all the great reviews. First of all, the food was not good. It wasn’t awful. But comparing it to other Chinese restaurants in the city, it was pretty bad. Second, the interior was very shabby and rundown. Usually, this doesn’t bother me as long as the food is great. But that wasn’t the case. And finally, there were a couple of employees just sleeping on the tables. I understand if they were taking their breaks, but having staff members visibly taking naps on the tables where customers eat, is very unprofessional.
Vegetarian food can be so amazing, and at Buddha Bodai I was able to have some of the best vegetarian dim sum I've had so far. The food was so flavorful and the texture of the dumplings were simply perfect. I went family who were not vegetarian, and while at first they did not have high expectations, they were just completely blown away!
A little heavy on the palate but good flavors. Chickrn corn soup didnt look like much but the flavors are good. Lunch special is always a good deal at any place, we got general tso chicken w the pan fried dumplings. Chicken had actually spicy sauce. Broccoli crunch was nice nd yes.
We also ordered dan dan noodles, I wasn’t crazy about it but loved the cilantro in it. Noodle texture were just ok but the sauce was too watery nd not coating enough.
The soup dumpling filling were very mushy nd just ok, soup was also just ok inside. 2/5.

You can not find a better place in china town. This place is top tier and it has everything you could want. It was incredibly fast and the food was hot and fresh. The fried tiny buns are a must order by far. I would also recommend the beef w broccoli, fried rice and soup dumplings. There were other things on the menu that looked amazing but we didn’t get to try like the fried pork dumplings, beef lo Mein and peanut noodles. The noodles looked thick and saucy. It’s cash only so bring some cash but everything is priced under $10 except for the mains at dinner. We ordered 6 things and it was $45 . We couldn’t finish it because the portions are so huge. You can’t get a better meal for the price in NYC.
One word...Amazing! This place is absolutely a must go to. Fantastic ambiance if you like dining in low light settings which makes for a great date night scene or a night out in the town for the grown and sexy. Family style eating asian-fusion restaurant with a la carte and prefix menus. I highly recommend for any occasion. Nice drink menus consisting of reds, whites, sake, spirits and cocktails.
The food was good for a small cafe. It's a good place to stop in for a quick bite and a step up from a fast food joint. The crab roe soup dumpling was good and the fried chicken wings were fried to perfection. The latter was sprinkled with chili flakes, but it was more garnish than spicy. The only downside to the cafe was the lack of A/C. It was hotter than a billy goat with a blowtorch outside; inside, it felt like we were sitting in lukewarm water.
I visited this restaurant at the recommendation of a friend and enjoyed every single meal that I had there. The dumplings and fried rice were delicious, with my highlight meal being the sticky rice with pork, shrimp and scallop wrapped in lotus leaf which was so flavorful!
5 star stop on your way through Chinatown. The staff is very attentive and your food comes out quickly. The scallion pancakes were delicious. Also had the roast pork chowfun. The small steamed dumplings were excellent
Food was good, we had twice cooked pork, chicken and broccoli and the mixed fried rice. Wish the mixed fried rice had more Chinese sausage. Had to ask for some forks multiple times before we could ear. Also never got water for our table while every other table did, not sure if you are suppose to ask for water.
Tasty food at a reasonable price! Came here after waiting half an hour at another restaurant in the area before getting hangry and giving up. So glad the restaurant wasn’t too busy in the afternoon and was immediately seated.
Food came quickly and was piping hot! If you’re used to just ordering sesame or General Tsos chicken, I’d encourage you to try something new here! The highlight for me was the braised pork with mustard greens and bao buns! The pork just fell apart between those soft pillowy buns 🤤. Overall, a solid spot with good vibes (modern but old school Chinatown at the same time) especially if you don’t want to wait too long!

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Uncle Lao Chinese Restaurant, and I must say it was a truly enjoyable experience. The restaurant's inviting atmosphere, friendly staff and amazing aromas were a treat.
To start, I ordered the Crispy Garlic Chicken, and it was absolutely divine. The chicken was cooked to perfection, with a crispy exterior and tender, juicy meat on the inside. The garlic flavor added a delightful kick that elevated the dish to new heights. The portion size was generous, making it a great dish for sharing or indulging in all by yourself.
Next, I opted for the Wanton Noodle Soup, and it did not disappoint. The broth was rich and flavorful, showcasing a harmonious blend of spices and seasonings. The wantons were plump and filled with a delectable mixture of meat and herbs. The noodles had the ideal texture, neither too soft nor too firm, creating a satisfying slurping experience.

Bustling restaurant serving vegan (and Kosher) Chinese food in Chinatown. The environment was casual, service was friendly and efficient. When seated they give you a pot of tea which was great. They have a dim sum menu, extensive menu of Chinese staples, lunch specials, etc. Ordered the BBQ and Spinach dim sums, and 2 lunch specials - chicken fried rice and general tsos chicken. The dim sum was tasty, the general tsos was crunchy and delicious. Meal was filling. Coming here was a cool experience, enjoyed our time here
A very true cuisine to its culture I was happy how efficiently the food came out to the table. Everything tasted amazing I highly recommend the sweet & sour chicken and the eel as well definitely worth it! I definitely plan on visiting this establishment again once I visit the city again and came recommend by a friend of mine that lives in the city. I do recommend that you bring CASH if you plan on going to this restaurant or atleast make sure you have a Venmo account because that's the only payments they take.
Food was good, but not exceptional. We got the ‘chicken’ fried rice and the mushrooms with black bean sauce. The fried rice was good, but not spicy (we asked for very spicy).
The man at the front desk insists on the full party being there before seating, even if it’s for 2 people and there are empty tables -_- Honestly just a mean move to inconvenience patrons.

Please order their fried rice!!! It’s fantastic!!!! The pork soup dumplings are good, but the dumpling skin is a bit thick. The last time I come here there’s only one server and I kept waiting to be served for a long time. They provided better service than the last time I visited ( a lot better, tbh), so I guess I would visit again.
I had a large hot sake to warm myself up... And then another one to stay warm... So in my tipsy opinion, the food was really good! But I'm sure I would've enjoyed it sober too :) Wait staff was really nice, offered to reheat the hot sake. The dim sum isn't traditional Cantonese dim sum, but good in its own way. Definitely try the truffle oil soup dumplings.
While this is not really traditional dim sum - there are no carts and many of the items are what I would consider Fusion, it is really fantastic.
We went on a Friday night - it was busy but not ridiculously so. Which is a good thing because the restaurant is quite small. When we were there, there was a children's birthday party in the hibachi restaurant upstairs which was extremely loud. I don't know if that is normal or was just a special occasion.
We started with a couple soups - the Tom Yum is really great and does not skimp on the seafood ingredients. The wanton noodle soup was good but there are better places in the area.
Then we had a wide variety of dim sum items. The only thing I found disappointing was the lotus leaf rice, which was quite small and did not have the variety of ingredients that I would expect. Everything else was phenomenal.
Our daughter loved the Hello Kitty dessert buns!
For a more traditional, but also cart-less experience I would recommend Tim Ho Wan, but as a modern version of dim sum, with more slicker presentation, flavoring and style, Dynasty Dim Sum is a fantastic choice.
