An institution in the Pudu / Loke Yew area, Hung Kee has been dishing out their famous wantan mee for decades now. While parking is a chore, it's possible to find a place along the street outside the shop at night. Forget about it during the day.

The famous dishes here are the wantan noodles (nice and springy), the char siew is also a delight. But the highlight for me was the sweet & sour pork, done in a long forgotten, old-fashioned style that is super crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside.

Most patrons would rather flock to the air-conditioned dining area adjoining the original store, and there's even a semi-private dining room with two tables.

Prices are a little above average, but it's not deterred the flock of never ending people coming here for the humble wantan noodles here. Must try.

This review is for the night tai chow, where the restaurant converts into a Chinese restaurant with cooked dishes instead of through the stalls in the coffee shop.

Available on in during the evening period, this place is pretty popular with the locals as it gets quite crowded during peak dinner time between 6:30pm to 8:00pm. Parking around the area can be a little challenging, so you might want to prepare yourself for a bit of a walk, or even park at Bangsar Village and walk across the road.

There are chairs and tables inside the restaurant and also placed along the five food way as well to accommodate the never ending stream of diners who come here. Just find a seat and a server will come to take your order as to what you what. In fact, there is even a menu that will be given to you on the dishes they serve.

During my visit, it took about 20 minutes before our first dish even arrived. I suppose you could also order some satay that's located at the front of the shop to tide you by while you wait for your main dishes to arrive.

We had Hot Plate Sizzling Tofu, Four Heavenly Kings (stir fried 4 vegetables with stink beans added on), a steamed Red Snapper with cheong Cheng sauce, and a delicacy you don't find in many places - pigs intestines with salted dried shrimp.

The food was excellent, with the exception of the fish, which I felt was slightly too sweet. Everything else was perfectly cooked, and I had a very enjoyable meal there.

Prices are quite alright - RM119 for 3 persons, which was very reasonable (including drinks).

Will be back again in the near future.
Want a history lesson? This eatery is the exact location of the famous Sisters Char Koay Teow back in its heyday. Of course it's all renovated now, and no trace of its former glorious past can be seen. But if you're from Penang, and if you're old enough, then you will know where this place it right away.

Opened in June 2022, Penanglang offers a sampling of some nonya dishes, street food and some desserts as well. You can get the Hokkien mee here, which is not bad, or dive into some Tau Eu Bak (soya sauce pork), which was just average. The desserts include Ice kacang, cendol and a few others, all of which were just average.

While it is understandable that food cost has gone up in recent times, Penanglang's prices are a little above average of what I expected.
Kam Hei Seafood

Kam Hei shares the same location as another coffee shop called Beng Aun, which operates during the day. So there might be some confusion when looking for this place. It's easier to look for Beng Aun and park your car at the back, where you can see a temple.

The bulk of the seating is al-fresco, and this would make it weather dependent. If it's a rainy day, it's better to avoid as there are limited indoor seating available.

For their signature dishes, go for the braised fish head, braised pig's trotters amongst others. You can always inquire for what are the fresh catch of the day.

Food is superb. The cooks are a pair of older men behind the woks and their experience shows in the food preparation.

Prices are also reasonable and won't burn a hole in your pocket.
A great place to spend an evening with family or friends with a good dinner.
Chatterbox Hk

Between the fancy Chinese restaurants that will cost you a bomb and the no-frills coffee shops that are cheap and cheerful lies this 3rd category of restaurants - the mid priced ones with comfortable but not fancy decor, good selection of dishes and quick service.

Being one of the mainstays for a long time in Bangsar Village is Chatterbox. The menu is a hybrid of Hong Kong styled quick eats like cheese baked rice and teas to local favourites as well. Most dishes are above average in taste and that makes it popular during peak dining hours.

You can't go wrong choosing anything on the menu.
