Good Harbor Beach
This was a beautiful public beach. As compared to beaches in the Mid-Atlantic region this was quite different. The beach was very flat with hard packed sand and there was 60-80 yards of beach to use (low tide). Also, there were large rock outcroppings all around and a rock island too. I didn't go swimming but I suspect the water is a little colder than OBX!
Dunn Loring Park
This is a great little park right in Dunn Loring. It is usually not extremely crowded and there is good parking available usually. This park has the normal accommodations. There is a tennis court basketball court walking trails pavilion, etc.

Catoctin Mountain Orchard
We stopped here because it came highly recommended by one of the people in our party. They swore that this place had the best pies ever. The place itself is a small roadside His store with an orchard attached. Everything was a little bit pricey.
We bought a bunch of pies at twenty dollars each. When we got home and tried them they were no better than any other pie. Nothing special.
The staff was friendly and the place was clean.

Bull Run Regional Park
We went to Bull Run Regional Park for the festival of lights around Christmas. The light displays were extensive and impressive. It is definitely worth seeing. This WAY better than the Lantern Festival at Tysons.
A couple of nits, the traffic getting into and out was extraordinary. COME EARLY! Right after dark. You come after dinner out the traffic will be insane.
A cost of $40 a car seems like a lot. But that did not seem to deter people.

Budds Creek Motocross Park
I love Budds Creek. I go there every year to watch the the Lucas oil AMA national motocross races. This is an excellent venue for viewing as much of the track is in a bowl and you are elevated and can see a lot of the track.
One nit: I arrived much later than I normally do is normally due probably around is around 10:45 AM. The gate drop on the main events starts at 1 PM. There were 2 lines 1 for prepurchased purchased tickets and one for buying tickets. The pre purchased ticket line was twice as long and took almost an hour to get through. With the right processes and technology it should take a fraction of that time. I urge the management to review and improve their customer customer entry process.
