Hampton National Historic Site

Beautiful place to bring your children to learn some history or with a friend, even alone. Rebranded as Hampton National Historic Site (for obvious reasons) this is formerly known as the Ridgely family plantation. You can feel the energy that runs deep through the property. There is the main house, and across the street is more of the property along with a slave “headquarters” or village. On certain days you can get a guided tour. This mansion is on a hill so be prepared to walk. Absolutely stunning property. The only thing that concerns me is the Ridgely family cemetery is very much existing but there is no slave cemetery, so most likely the slaves are buried deep beneath the property or were burned. Either way, the cemetery recently has been locked up which you used to be able to enter. The history of everything seems a bit white washed on paper, using nicer words to name certain locations around the property and purposes of things. This was a place where a very rich family lived luxurious and they couldnt have done it without the help of their slaves.
