I've been trying to get a corrected birth certificate since 2018. I legally changed my name because it was years to late just to correct spelling. I submitted paperwork to this place they said amend the order to have birth date included. I stopped the process now 2023 the paperwork at court changed and I amended the order. I submitted all paperwork in May to date still no birth certificate. It is now August. They keep saying it's waiting to be examed. And they don't answer emails timely.

This office has really great staff overall with exception for the greeting personnel that verifies your appointment. She-They are extremely rude & very short; I understand it can get tough dealing with people yet that doesn’t justify the fact that she just speaks to people so poorly. Other than this, everyone else is kind and polite, I had an interview for my sons birth certificate which went so well both my interviewers were thorough and precise. You’re usually in and out of here unless you’re waiting for a birth which of course takes a bit longer.

Believe me when I say that your visit will be one of the most traumatizing moments in your life. I have anxiety disorder and this was the worst experience I have been through during my 4 years in New York. Being an Asian made it even worse for me. The people who work here are rude and miserable and they project that on customers. If you hate your job, quit.

If you need to change a letter or your name, you’re better off getting a court order. Before COVID I came here and I had to change one letter in my name so I paid 50 dollars and I kept getting my
Old birth certificate in the mail bc it was denied. I went again and they didn’t make me pay bc the lady remembered me and I only needed to change 1 letter. It got denied again and the third time they told me either to pay again bc there was a different issue on my birth certificate or get a court order … I never got my original money back so basically I still had to get a court order in the end. Just get a court order and don’t come here and waste your money

Set an appointment here way early. Under staffed 3 windows open. Sitting for 1hr 15 min. Lied about what I needed to get birth certificate. Staff were rude and disrespectful. Someone needs to teach them how to do the job and do it effectively. Such a hostile and a usive environment for customers.

I was nervous going there. I had an appointment for 3:00 and arrived 2:50 not sure what happens if you don’t have an appointment . Lady when you first enter was kind and navigated me , the lady that was helping people on the screens were kind until a different lady saw that the time was 3:00 (I guess that was the cut off time for the screens to order the birth certificate) was being rude to other people. She said “Ma’am I’m talking wait , how hard is it for people to follow directions “ . I thought that was rude as hell . Other than that , the process was smooth and I left with my birth certificate in hand after about an hour of waiting

SUE these people! We seriously need to file a lawsuit on the incompetent actions of this office. It should in no way take less time to get a birth certificate from another country mailed to us yet this is the case. They haven't even cashed a money order sent yet on June 23rd, 2021 meaning it isn't even in process all this time. They asked for more docs after applying online in April. Took weeks to be notified that they need more info and now this order has lost us our opportunity to travel abroad for our wedding because we need it for our passport.Costing us thousands!

Update: 12/22/22 Still Nothing. Sent a 2nd request on 10/6.

2nd update: 03/12/23 Status has changed to In Progress.

3rd update: 7/11/23 Called to follow up in June. Stated to wait a few weeks. Still nothing.

First off the entrance isn't on Worth Street, it's on Lafayette. Be prepared to go through metal detectors when you arrive. As soon as you walk in the main room to apply for your birth certificate is right there in lobby. If you just want that, go there but all other services go further in. There was a guy there directing people where to go. I specifically told him I needed to go to room 133 but he just threw me on the line with everyone else. When I got to the front of the line and was at a kiosk is where a worker told me I was on the wrong line. So I finally made my way to room 133 waited on two lines. One reviewed my paperwork and the other to pay for it. But it didn't matter because I ended up having to redo the entire application form 3 times. They were extremely technical and petty with the way the form had to be filled out. So now I have to wait 6-8 weeks for them to send me the certificate.
